type='text'>Mullets and bread and bath houses, oh my!

Sorry for not posting anything until now - its been a very busy 2 weeks. I attempted to post something from an internet cafe in Amsterdam but, well, ya know, I was....sleepy.

So we arrived in Vienna yesterday and so far we think its a pretty cool place. Coming in on the train from Munich was like a scene straight out of The Sound of Music. Absolutely beautiful! That is why, upon our arrival at the train station and the subsequent cab ride to our gay bath house hotel (I love my gay boyz!) we were shocked to see that parts of this town are super sketchy, overcrowded and dirty. Fortunately though, what we have seen of vienna since has been absolutely beautiful.

So I'll give a recap of our haps over the last 2 weeks. We started out in London and had a great time. We met up with Simon's sister and her boyfriend (and Harry the dog) in Oxford one day - it was great to see them. We also caught Othello at the Globe theater - you know how I love me some Shakespeare - which was phenomenal. We checked out the Tate Modern and loved that as well. We met up with Ellie's friend Doug for dinner and drinks one night and Ellie almost strangled me because I got drunk and obnoxious. We did the London Eye ride which was actually really cool and strolled around Hyde Park, hazed the guards at Buckingham Palace and didn't buy the $400 perfume at Harrods. We almost missed our flight to Amsterdam and that was when it sunk in that we brought way too much shit - our bags weighed nearly 70 pounds!

Amsterdam (i.e. The Motherland) was, of course, awesome. We were upgraded at our hotel (right on Vondel Park) and totally got pimped out in an amazing suite. Now that is how you do Amsterdam! It's only right to have a living room with a TV in it when you are in that city! :) Like being at home! All that made up for the fact that Ryan Air lost my bag for 3 days. Luckily, Ellie and I each packed enough for 4 people so I mooched off her until I got my bag back. Then, we shipped home a box full of shit we didn't need. Lighten the load bitches!

After reluctantly leaving the Motherland, we took a train to Paris. It was so nice to be in Paris when its not scorching hot and humid. I took Ellie to Notre Dame, The Eiffle Tower, The Louvre, Champs Elysse, Arc de Triumphe, and we did a cruise on the Seine. Once we got all the usual tourist stuff out of the way we spent a lot of time sitting at sidewalk cafes and strolling around the city. Oddly, we got the exact same hotel room that I had 2 years ago when I stayed at that hotel. Great little balcony from where we watched all the Parisians go about their daily life.

From Paris, we took an overnight sleeping train to Berlin. The sleeping car was pretty cool but with our huge ass bags, we barely fit in there. I took a shower on the train because, well, why not!? That was an experience! Berlin was pretty amazing. We did a Pub Crawl tour and had a blast. Met some fun people - mostly Canadians - and got hammered off that crazy German beer. The next day, we did a 5 hour walking tour of the city and saw all the historically significant sites of the city - Checkpoint Charlie, parts of the Berlin Wall, the Jewish Memorial, Brandenburg Gate, a bunch of Hitler crap and MOST IMPORTANTLY... the window and balcony where Michael Jackson dangled the baby! That was SO the highlight of my time in Berlin. :) Oh, we also spent a day in Pottsdam (a beautiful town just outside of Berlin) where we rented bikes and rode around getting lost and drunk on Maibock all day. Barely made it out of that that place in one piece!

From Berlin we took a train to Munich. I LOVE that city. We did a bike tour of the city, some shopping, went to a few beer gardens and stood in awe of the hundreds of mullets roaming that city. Don't forget though - these are the same people who WORSHIP David Hasslehoff!. We made a point to show up at the Glockenspiel for the "show" one day - major letdown. I tried convincing all the Japanese tourists around us that we should riot and demand our money back, but Ellie reminded me that it was free so I let it go... this time.

Which brings us here, to Vienna. We leave tomorrow for Venice and will spend about 2 weeks in Italy. I am really looking forward to Sorrento, Positano and Cinque Terre. It will be nice to get out of the crowded cities and in to some beautiful coastal areas - particularly after Florence and Rome. Unfortunately I can't seem to go 30 minutes without eating bread so I'll be wearing jeans and sweatshirt to the beach. Not really, but the varbs are a huge problem here for me. What the hell though, its vacation and I'll worry about undoing the damage when I get home.

That's all for now. Peace out!

test post

chillin in vienna

Two-a-day Packing Practice Drills

So we're about T minus one week from take off and the heat is on. I leave May 15 and hope to keep this blog updated with tales from Europa!

S to the J

But is Europe ready for us???

He is such an IDIOT!

So Ellie and I are well into planning mode for our trip to Europe. May 15 is sneaking up on us and it seems like there is still so much to do. We're still ironing out the itinerary but we are starting in London for 4 days, then Amsterdam for 3, then Paris for 3. We'll also hit Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and France. I am currentlytrying to reconcile how I'll get 7 weeks worth of clothes in one bag and still have room for the inevidable slew of new purchases. It will work out...it always does.

But first - NYC. The fight began in a card room.

A man's "soon to be ex-wife" stole the hubcaps off his vehicle parked on Border Lane.
